When I set up Siren Marketing, I decided to see if hairdressers needed assistance with putting together their awards submissions. As it turned out, ‘yes’ they did and still do, but something remarkable came out of this.
Once the awards were completed, most collections sat in salon computers doing nothing. What a waste! So I set about making sure that salon collections gained the maximum exposure – worldwide. With some help with the legendary Sharon Blain, I set up a media list. It took over 100 hours of emails, phone calls and faxes to get it up and running. And boy, was it worth it?
Hairdressers, organisations and product companies all around the world have benefited brilliantly but getting their name and images out to the world. In our global world it was an obvious step, but not an easy one for salons to do individually.
Hair Shots 2 The World made it easy due to the magic media list and months of media monitoring to ensure salons had impressive portfolios.
Rolling in social media and our service is even more valuable as hairdressing post their clippings to ‘wow’ their clients, students and judges. Hairdressing media around the world promote collections on social media more than ever before too.
For me, The cherry on top was being given a Special Recognition Award from the Australian Hair Industry Awards in 2020 for the innovation of Hair Shots 2 The World and other industry achievements (like bedding down the award-winning Hair Expo in Sydney as a national event and developing the submission component of awards to equal the quality of the collections being produced).
It is a passion and a joy getting superb hair fashion imagery around the world and to be cataloguing its history. Producing the first Australian hairdressing coffee table book, Hair 2010-2019 (in support of Hair Aid Inc) was a thrill and made the tricky time of lockdown bearable. My time still had purpose. Some copies of this limited edition book are still available.
